Message from the Mayor - March 21st, 2020

March 21, 2020

Message from the Mayor,

On behalf of Town of Deep River council and staff, I want to thank residents and businesses for the many examples of our community supporting each other while social distancing. We know that this is a time of significant uncertainty and we appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we all take steps to mitigate the spread of COVID-19

Residents should be assured that the Town of Deep River is continuing to closely monitor the COVID-19 situation and to anticipate and respond, within our capacity, to situations as they arise following the guidance of government and healthcare professionals in Renfrew County, the province and the country.

The Town recognizes the importance of maintaining essential services which support the safety and well-being of our community while also protecting the health & safety of our employees.  To this end, the Town has closed non-essential facilities and services to help minimize the potential spread.  Although all Town facilities are closed, staff can still be reached by phone 613-584-2000 or e-mail, see http://www.deepriver.ca/departments/.

The Town has also taken steps to offer assistance to Valu-Mart and Giant Tiger with delivery of groceries and other essentials to those who have returned from out-of-county travel and are in self-isolation and to others in self-isolation who may not have community supports to assist them. Supply of COVID-19 signage has been offered to other business in the community.

  • Jan's Valu-Mart email: mon02673@loblaw.ca or call 613-584-3893
  • Giant Tiger: 613-584-3048 and ask to speak to the store supervisor

I am calling on the full cooperation and support of all residents to respect Federal and Provincial requirements and follow the guidance of our County Public Health experts by minimizing the frequency and duration of your visits to public places and to strictly adhere to requirements to self-isolate if:

  • You have travelled outside of Canada within the last 14 days.
  • You have a fever, cough or difficulty breathing.
  • You have been in close contact with a confirmed or probable case of COVID-19
  • Someone in your household is in self-isolation for COVID-19
  • You have been in unprotected contact with a person with an acute respiratory illness.

Self-isolation means your most important role is to stay home - which means not going into any stores.

The Town of Deep River continues to update our Website and Facebook page with COVID-19 related information and resources.  Staff are also working on our ability to hold council and committee meetings through electronic methods.

If you have health related questions regarding COVID-19, please refer to the Renfrew County & District Health Unit COVID-19 website https://www.rcdhu.com/novel-coronavirus-covid-19-2, call them at 613-735-8654 or contact Telehealth Ontario at 1-866-797-0000.

Sincerely,

Sue D'Eon
