Recreation Summer Student Employment

The Town of Deep River is currently accepting applications for summer student employment with the Recreation Department:

  •  Summer Administrative Assistant

​Responsible to provide administrative support to Recreation Department and other departments as assigned by the Recreation Program Coordinator.  Job duties will vary depending on the task assigned.  At times you may work independently or in a team environment.  Some tasks will include filing, scanning documents, preparing documents/reports, proofreading, answering and directing telephone calls etc.

  • Summer Program Co-ordinators

​Responsible for the supervision of all playground staff, parent & tot leaders and playground sites. Act as a leader if the need arises and coordinate/supervise special events and projects. Prepare supplies and equipment prior to the opening of the season and the distribution of supplies during the program and responsible for pre and post season inventory of equipment and supplies and the evaluation of the program leaders at the end of their summer employment. Prior to the start of playgrounds you will be responsible for organizing and developing lesson plans and daily activities for the children enrolled in the summer programs. Lastly, arrange and report the end of season assessment of the program. There will be other assignments requested as needed by the Recreation Program Co-coordinator.

  • Camp Leaders / Playgrounds Leaders

​​Responsible for the supervision of all children, equipment and playground sites. Assist with special events and projects and develop lesson plans and daily activities for the children enrolled in the program. Support and assist with the preparation of supplies and equipment and the distribution of supplies during the program. Help with the pre and post season inventory of equipment and supplies. There will be other assignments requested as needed by the Recreation Program Coordinator

  • Parent and Tot Soccer Leaders (Spring)

The Deep River Parent & Tot program is run by Recreational Program Leaders , aiming to introduce foundational soccer skills to our community’s youngest future soccer stars in a fun and safe learning environment for all. Children will have their first experience with the world of soccer and will be exposed to the following skills through fun and games: kicking, dribbling, throw-in, passing, goalie skills, defensive moves and scrimmaging. 

Additionally, the program provides an opportunity for parents to be involved. Parents can participate on-field alongside your child.

  • Ball Hockey Leaders (Spring)

​Responsible for compiling drills and lesson plans and monitoring scrimmage games.

  • Pool and Beach Aquatic Staff

Fulfill proper lifeguarding responsibilities and duties as well as, ensure adequate coverage while patrons are attending public access swimming programs.

Provide guarding at designated swimming location(s) - Deep River Community Pool and Town beach (June through August).

Assume all instructional responsibilities and duties for any and all registered instructional programs from infants to seniors according to the Lifesaving Society standards.

Responsible for program-related administrative duties including answering phone enquiries, ongoing customer service to participants of the Town programming, prepare lesson plans and end of session report cards.  Input of completion status in Book King online system.

Answer general enquiries and provide information about pool facilities and related programs;

Provide general administrative support completing cash reports as required and ensuring deposits are safely secured at end of shift;

Responsible for performing daily/nightly maintenance in and around the pool/beach and the change rooms. When working an opening shift, responsible for ensuring the maintenance has been performed the previous evening and the pool/beach is prepared for opening programs.  Conduct basic pool/beach maintenance while adhering to all internal policy and WHMIS legislation;

During the annual pool maintenance (usually 3 weeks mid August of each year) responsible for light maintenance and refurbishment duties such as cleaning.

Protect own health and health of others by adopting safe work practices, reporting unsafe conditions immediately, attending all relevant training regarding occupational health and safety. 

Carry out other duties as assigned by the Sr. Pool Supervisor.
