Overview: 
The Town of Deep River is seeking a Fire Chief who will, as part of the Management Team, be responsible for the effective and efficient administration and operation of the Fire Department. This position will perform the statutory duties of the Fire Chief as defined by the Fire Protection and Prevention Act and other acts of legislation.

Qulifications: 

The ideal candidate will possess:

• Post-secondary education in Administration, Management or Business or an acceptable combination of education, training, and experience;

 • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in a supervisory capacity, preferably in fire services or related field;

• Candidates must have a demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development;

• Knowledge of modern firefighting, rescue, and fire prevention practices NFPA, CSA, ULC, and related standards and the Municipality service areas, and departmental apparatus and equipment;

• Demonstrated experience in leadership, communication, and conflict-resolution;

• Clear understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Fire Protection and Prevention Act, and applicable municipal and departmental policies is preferred;

• Must have proven ability to effectively lead, supervise, and support volunteer firefighters;

• The physical ability to respond to emergencies in the field which may include exposure to hazardous conditions such as fire, smoke, chemicals, extreme heat, and dangerous structures.

Candidates must have or be able to obtain the following certifications:

• NFPA 1021 – Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualifications (Levels 1-4).

• NFPA 1031 - Standard for Professional Qualifications for Fire Inspector & Plan Examiner II

• NFPA 1521 - Standard for Fire Department Safety Officer Professional Qualifications

• NFPA 1033 - Standard for Professional Qualifications for Fire Investigator

• NFPA 1041 - Standard for Fire and Emergency Services Instructor II Professional Qualifications

• NFPA 472 – Hazardous Materials Responder (Operations Level).

• NFPA 1002 – Standard for Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator Professional Qualifications

• SP 230 - Wildland Fire Strategies and Tactics

• Valid, current certifications in Standard First Aid, CPR, Defibrillation (AED), and Oxygen Therapy.

• Valid Province of Ontario Driver’s License with appropriate endorsements.

Other:

• This is a Full-time, non-union position based on a 35-hour work week with possible evenings & weekends as required.

• The current annual compensation scale is $125,326 - $172,352 plus an attractive benefit package.

• Benefits are in accordance with Town policies.
