Pool & Hot Tub Safety Reminder

Pool & Hot Tub Safety Reminder

With warmer weather here, the Town of Deep River would like to remind residents that swimming pools, temporary pools, inflatable pools, and hot tubs must comply with the Town’s pool enclosure requirements under By-law 29-92.

This includes pools purchased from Canadian Tire, Home Hardware, online retailers, or similar stores. Even if a pool is temporary, inflatable, seasonal, or only being used for a short time, it still requires a proper enclosure.

As a general reminder, if a pool, hot tub, or similar structure is capable of holding more than 24 inches / 2 feet of water, the enclosure requirements apply. This is based on what the pool or hot tub is capable of holding, not simply how much water is placed in it at the time.

Hot tubs may be safely secured and with an approved enclosure or locking safety cover, depending on the setup.

These requirements are in place to help protect children, neighbors, and the community from preventable water-related hazards.

Before setting up or filling a pool or hot tub, please review the requirements under Town of Deep River By-law 29-92 or contact the Town for clarification.
