National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
Each year, September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
The day honours the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process.
Join us in Honour of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation – September 30
In recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, residents and visitors are invited to come together for a meaningful community walk and ceremony on Monday, September 30.
The event will begin with a walk from Lamure Beach to the Deep River Waterfront, where a flag-raising ceremony will take place. The walk will then continue along the waterfront to the Deep River Shoreline Sports Club, where participants are welcome to gather around a 24-hour sacred fire and take part in Indigenous teachings, traditional smudging, drumming, and more.
Those wishing to participate in the walk are asked to arrive at Lamure Beach between 10:30 AM and 11:00 AM, as the walk will begin promptly at 11:00 AM.
For more information and updates, please follow the NDTR Sept 30 – Deep River and Area Facebook page, and watch for event details shared in other local Facebook groups.
Let us walk together in the spirit of truth, healing, and reconciliation.
