2026 Unofficial List of Candidate Nominations

Prior to 4:00 PM on the Monday (August 24, 2026) following Nomination Day (August 21, 2026) the Clerk shall examine each Nomination filed and if satisfied the Nomination complies with the Municipal Elections Act, the Clerk shall certify as such on the Nomination. If not satisfied, the Clerk shall reject the Nomination and as soon as possible give notice to the person who sought to be Nominated and all other Candidates for that office.

The new term of Council will begin on November 15, 2026 with the Inaugural Meeting of Council taking place on November 25, 2026. This new term of Council will end on November 14, 2030.

Candidate Registration

In order to register to become a Candidate for Mayor, Reeve, Councillor or School Board Trustee in the upcoming election, you must be:

  • A Canadian citizen and at least 18 years old;
  • A resident of the municipality, a non-resident owner or tenant of land in the municipality, or the spouse of such non-resident owner or tenant of land; 
  • Not legally prohibited from voting; and
  • Not disqualified by any legislation from holding municipal office.

Candidates are also required to pay a fee as follows:

  • $200.00 for Mayor
  • $100.00 for Reeve, Councillor or School Trustee

How to File Your Nomination:

To run for office in the Town of Deep River you must submit:

You cannot raise or spend campaign funds until your Nomination has been filed. Nomination papers must be filed in person by you or your agent with the Clerk's office at 100 Deep River Road, Deep River, ON  K0J 1P0. 

Nominations may be filed in person or by an agent during regular business hours between May 1, 2026 and August 20, 2026, and between 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM on August 21, 2026 (Nomination Day)..

Important Information:

  • On Nomination Day, Friday, August 21, 2026 nominations will be accepted until 2:00 PM.
  • Candidates are responsible for making sure all forms are complete and accurate.
  • All nominations are reviewed by the Clerk and must be certified before they are officially accepted.
  • A Candidate may withdraw their Nomination by filing a written notice with the Clerk before 2:00 PM on August 21, 2026. Submit withdrawal in person with ID.
  • Candidates who withdraw their Nomination by 2:00 PM on March 30, 2027 are still required to submit an initial Financial Statement that covers all financial transactions up the time of the withdrawal.
  • Nomination papers are public documents and may be viewed by the public.
  • Nomination fees will be refunded if the Candidate files their Campaign Financial Statement by the required deadline of March 30, 2027.
  • A Candidate who has filed a Nomination and wishes to run for a different office must submit a new Nomination package for the new office by 2:00 PM on August 21, 2026. The new Nomination must be filed in person by the Candidate or their agent at the Clerk's office. Once the new Nomination is filed the Candidate's previous Nomination is considered withdrawn.
