MARCH 10TH, 2026 – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FIRE INCIDENT MARCH 6TH, 2026
DEEP RIVER, ONTARIO
The Deep River Fire Department (DRFD) responded to a structure fire on the morning of March 6, 2026, which resulted in the destruction of a residential garage. At 10:45 a.m., crews were dispatched to a detached garage fire. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke and high-intensity flames threatening an adjacent single-family home and outbuildings.
A total of 18 firefighters were deployed to the scene. Due to the fire intensity, a "defensive-to-offensive" strategy was utilized to protect neighboring assets. The fire was declared under control within 45 minutes of the initial call. The garage and its contents are considered a total loss; however, the primary residence and adjacent outbuildings were saved.
Following the investigation into the incident, fire officials have classified the origin and cause of the blaze as undetermined. The extreme intensity of the fire, coupled with the high volume of consumed products within the structure, resulted in significant degradation of physical evidence. Furthermore, the necessary and thorough overhaul process required to ensure all hotspots were extinguished further obscured the point of ignition.
The DRFD would like to extend a sincere thank you to our community partners (Public Works, Hydro One, OCWA, DRPD, OPP, and EMS) whose assistance was vital to the success of this operation.
"Fighting fires is inherently dangerous work, but the level of commitment and dedication shown by these 18 members, prevented a much larger tragedy for this neighborhood." - Fire Chief McRae
